Filming

Yesterday me and the rest of my team plus a few extras went down to the warehouse and filmed about half of the thriller. We got a lot of different camera angles and played about with how we were filming the scene involving Charlie and Rory. Everybody had something to do, Rory is the director, Charlie is the main character and an editor, I do the filming and editing, Joe helped with setting the camera angles, Tayla is costume and make-up, Tom is in charge of lighting, Dan did some of the filming in our film and Beth got us part of the location. We are currently editing the film at the moment and will continue filming next week, we still need to film in one more location then put it all together. We have to try and do this when the other class is not in the editing suite as there is not enough room and people need certain computers. Here are some pictures of us filming;

Past Students Work

I was having a look at some work of past students and one of them had me really intersted and i thought it was a really good opening for a thriller. It keeps the suspense building right the way through and used some really good camera skills. They had a interesting story behind their opening, finding an item then using a red herring in the beginning but then the real villains are shown.

Sir Alfred Hitchcock

Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, KBE (13 August 1899 – 29 April 1980) was an English filmmaker and producer. He pioneered many techniques in the suspense and psychological thriller genres. After a successful career in his native United Kingdom in both silent films and early talkies, Hitchcock moved to Hollywood. In 1956 he became an American citizen while remaining a British subject. Over a career spanning more than half a century, Hitchcock fashioned for himself a distinctive and recognisable directorial style. Viewers are made to identify with the camera which moves in a way meant to mimic a person's gaze, forcing viewers to engage in a form of voyeurism. He framed shots to manipulate the feelings of the audience and maximise anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative film editing to demonstrate the point of view of the characters. His stories frequently feature fugitives on the run from the law alongside "icy blonde" female characters. Many of Hitchcock's films have twist endings and thrilling plots featuring depictions of violence, murder, and crime, although many of the mysteries function as decoys or "MacGuffins" meant only to serve thematic elements in the film and the extremely complex psychological examinations of the characters. Hitchcock's films also borrow many themes from psychoanalysis and feature strong sexual undertones. Through his cameo appearances in his own films, interviews, film trailers, and the television program Alfred Hitchcock Presents, he became a cultural icon. Hitchcock directed more than fifty feature films in a career spanning six decades.

Warehouse

On Friday we visited a possible warehouse that we can film in, we took some pictures and tried out some shots in practice. There is some carpet in the warehouse as it belongs to a carpet company in Romford, Essex but we thought that this could add to the effects in the film as an empty warehouse may have too many flaws, and it may not look realistic enough. We are planning all our props needed and a script of what's going to happen, things like black sheets to go over windows if they are too light and rope to tie the victim with. Here are some photos:

Analysis of target audience

We used Survey Monkey to do our target audience analysis. There were more males than females in our audience analysis, this could possibly mean that more men would watch the thriller than the women. We also asked the audience of their age range they all came back as 16-18, so we are looking at teenagers in our audience. By thinking of the things that we would like to see in a thriller we think that we have come up with a story line that most teenagers would enjoy thoroughly.

Music for our thriller

Mobygratis have got back to us about the request for the music, they have accepted our request and we now have the music so we have it to use in the thriller ASAP.

Our Ident

Experimenting with camera angles

CMBS Productions

We have created our Ident for our film, we have come up with CMBS Productions. We are in the process of print screening the Ident so we can share it.

11/01/11

Today me and my group did some filming on some of the camera shots that we are going to use in our opening sequence. We focused on a drinks bottle, and did the shots from there, we are currently editing the film so i can add it to my blog. I also went on to my mobygratis account, and have selected a piece of music that we would like to use and have requested the license for the music so we can hopefully use it. Along the way i am capturing photos of our work and of us in the process of making the opening sequence these will be made into a collage and added onto the blogs.

Sabotage

Sabotage was directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935. The film uses something that we call dramatic irony. Dramatic irony is when the characters in the text don't know something that we know such as in this film the package is a bomb yet the little boy doesn't know. Stevie is the little boy and his sister is married to Verloc.We see that Verloc is a terrorist but they don't know that. We see a note with the bomb saying the birds will sing at 1.45, this means that the bomb will go off at 1.45. Verloc tells Stevie he has to get to Piccadilly Circus train station by 1.30 so he can get out of the way before it goes off. Along the way the boy gets side tracked by the Lord Mayors Show and a 1930's street market. He notices that he is late and gets on a bus to try and get there quickly little does he know the bomb is going to go off any minute. We see the clock it slowly but surely is reaching 1.45. The tension is building with the music, quicker and louder, then we see quick shots of the bomb and BANG it blows up along with the bus and Stevie.
